Bloody Disgusting - Bad Robot Attacks Swedish Vampire Remake?
Saturday, March 15, 2008
Both Twitch Film and Bloody-Disgusting agree that the Swedish vampire film, Let the Right One In (Låt den rätte komma in), is probably going to be one of the best foreign horror films of 2008. Today we learned that JJ Abrams' company, Bad Robot, is making a play at the remake rights. Although the company behind Coverfield has yet to gain the rights, it looks like this is a possible home for the US version of the film. Magnet Releasing has acquired domestic home video rights for the pic playing this year's Tribeca Film Festival, watch for a review in the coming weeks.
Twitch - J.J. Abrams Pursuing Let the Right One In?
Mar 16 2008
Well, this is still firmly in the rumor camp but it’s certainly an intriguing one. We are enormous fans of Swedish vampire film Let The Right One In around these parts and are greatly looking forward to the day that we can drag our friends and neighbors to see it on the big screen thanks to the upcoming Magnet Releasing theatrical run of the picture. Well, according to the fine lads at Bloody Disgusting there may well be an English language version of the film coming soon as well, with J.J. Abrams’ production outfit Bad Robot in hot pursuit of the remake rights. IT’d be a bit of a departure tonally for Abrams et al but you could certainly do a lot worse ...

Bloody Disgusting - Hammer Films to Remake Let the Right One In?!
Monday, April 28, 2008
We broke the news that JJ Abrams' Bad Robot was attacking the remake to the Swedish vampire flick Let the Right One In a few weeks ago, only it looks as if things have changed. We received word this afternoon that Hammer Films has officially acquired the remake rights. No word on whether it'll be a feature film or an online series (like Beyond the Rave), but we'll keep you posted when we hear more. The original played at this past weekend's Tribeca Film Festival and will hit DVD later this year from Magnet Releasing (Magnolia Pictures). In the film Oscar, an overlooked and bullied boy, finds love and revenge through Eli, a beautiful but peculiar girl who turns out to be a vampire.

Låt den rätte komma in fick pris vid Tribeca Film Festival i New York.
2008-05-02 11:49:
Låt den rätte komma in tävlade i kategorin World Narrative Feature Competition. Bland bidragen fanns bland andra This is England-regissören Shane Meadows senaste film Somers Town.

There are special effects that no Hollywood blockbuster can create, and magic that no money can buy. It is the magic of humanity that no CGI can recreate or substitute – the magic of perfectly cast actors whose alchemy transcends (and renders laughable) the puerile “special effects” of the generic horror products. LET THE RIGHT ONE IN lets the right kind of magic into its horror story and transcends the genre. It is immaterial whether you like horror or not: it is simply a great film.

Bloody Disgusting - Let the Right One In Kicks Off Six-Shooter Series
Wednesday, July 30, 2008
We learned tis afternoon that Magnet Releasing has finally slated Let the Right One In (Låt den rätte komma in), the horror love story from director Tomas Alfredson, for release in Los Angeles and New York on October 24, followed by a national roll-out.
Let The Right One In is the inaugural release in Magnet’s “Six Shooter Film Series,” a series of six films highlighting the vanguard of genre cinema from around the globe. Five films will follow over the coming months: Nacho Vigalondo’s Timecrimes (Spain), Ollie Blackburn’s Donkey Punch (UK), Special (US), Big Man Japan (Japan), and Eden Log (France).
Click here to see art for all six films.
A fragile introverted boy, 12-year-old Oskar (Kåre Hedebrant) is regularly bullied by his stronger classmates but never strikes back. His wish for a friend comes true when he meets Eli (Lina Leandersson), also 12, who moves into the apartment next door with a man who is presumably her father. But coinciding with Eli's arrival is a series of disappearances and macabre murders—a man is found strung up in a tree, another frozen in the lake, a woman bitten in the neck.
Captivated by the gruesome stories and by Eli’s idiosyncrasies (she is only seen at night, and unaffected by the freezing cold), it doesn't take long before Oskar figures out that Eli is a vampire. Nevertheless, their friendship strengthens, and a subtle romance blossoms as the youngsters become inseparable. In spite of Oskar’s loyalty to her, Eli knows that she can only continue to live if she keeps on moving. But when Oskar faces his darkest hour, Eli returns to defend him the only way she can .
Based on the best-selling novel by John Ajvide Lindqvist, Swedish filmmaker Tomas Alfredson weaves friendship, rejection and loyalty into a haunting and darkly atmospheric, yet poetic and unexpectedly tender tableau of adolescence.

Bloody Disgusting - Full Magnet Six Shooter Film Series Slate Revealed!
Wednesday, August 13, 2008
Magnet Releasing, the genre arm of Magnolia Pictures, announced today the launch of the SIX SHOOTER FILM SERIES, a theatrical release of six films from the vanguard of quality worldwide genre cinema. With each film hailing from a different country, the series aims to bring fans of horror, sci-fi, alternative comedy and Asian cinema a mix of the most intelligent, genre-bending titles available from around the globe.
The film series is a labor of love for Magnet/Magnolia, who have been committed for some time now to bringing this kind of high-quality fare to theaters, releasing such beloved titles as Bong Joon-ho’s THE HOST and ONG BAK with Tony Jaa. Read on for the full release plans and details on all six films!
The inaugural film in the series will be Tomas Alfredson’s critically acclaimed LET THE RIGHT ONE IN from Sweden, winner of such film festival honors as “Best Narrative Feature” at the Tribeca Film Festival, the “Rotten Tomatoes Critical Consensus Award” at Edinburgh, “Best Film and Best Cinematography” at Göteborg, and “Best Film, Best Director, Best Photography, Best European, North or South American Film” at the Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal.
LET THE RIGHT ONE IN will open in New York and Los Angeles on Friday, October 24th with a regional expansion the following week. The film, based on a internationally bestselling Swedish novel, tells the story of an introverted and bullied 12-year-old boy whose wish for a friend is answered when a young girl moves into the apartment next door. However, the girl’s arrival coincides with a series of grisly murders, and their relationship is understandably complicated when the boy learns that his new friend is a vampire. Alfredson weaves friendship, rejection and loyalty into a haunting and darkly atmospheric, yet poetic and unexpectedly tender tableau of adolescence which manages to breath fresh life into the vampire genre .“Some of the most exciting, forward-thinking cinema today falls under the genre label and deserves a showcase,” said Magnolia Pictures President Eamonn Bowles. “In the tradition of ‘The Shooting Gallery Film Series,’ we're putting together a group of films whose quality far outweighs most of what’s on offer from Hollywood. And what better way to kick things off than with LET THE RIGHT ONE IN, which is one of the best films of the year—period.”
