Sci-Fi Wire - Witchblade Movie Developing

Platinum Studios, Top Cow Productions and Arclight Films will team on a live-action feature adaptation of Witchblade, based on the Top Cow comic-book franchise, Variety reported.

The comic book introduced the Witchblade mythology, which centers on an ornate jewel-encrusted gauntlet that gives extraordinary powers to the wearer, a specially chosen female from each generation.

The comic-book franchise has sold more than 100 million copies worldwide since debuting in 1995. It spawned a 2000 telefilm that turned into a weekly series that ran for two seasons on TNT, starring Yancy Butler.

Witchblade has been published in more than 21 languages and 55 countries. The most recent incarnation was an anime TV show in Japan by Gonzo Digimation in 2006.

The companies are already eyeing a location shoot in Australia.

Skulle gärna sett en film som byggde på TV-serien men det lär väl inte hända.

Pilotavsnittet räknas ju nästan som en film...

Jag tycker det bara är bra att dom börjar om från scratch. Det finns oerhörda möjligheter att göra detta på rätt sätt om man bara vill. TV-Serien i alla ära, den var bra men lämnade en del att önska.

Håller med Cartman. TV-serien var bra men saknade en hel del av Witchblade. Speciellt sexigheten och hur den omsluter hennes kropp.

Jag har ju inte läst serien i sig så jagkan inte tala om hur lyckad den är so madaption, men som serie var den riktigt, riktigt bra. Det är inte mycket osm behövts förbättras.

MATT HAWKINS ON THE WITCHBLADE MOVIE

Earlier this week Top Cow Productions, along with its partners Platinum Studios and Arclight Films, announced a new joint production effort to bring Top Cow's signature comic book property Witchblade to the screen in a feature length movie.

First published 1995 with Top Cow founder and CEO Marc Silvestri and superstar comic book artist Mike Turner among the original creative team, the series has centered around, "a deadly ornate gauntlet that gives superpowers to the wearer, a chosen female bearer of each generation, who possesses it", and has previously been adapted into a TNT television movie and then weekly series that ran for two seasons on the cable network, and more recently into a successful anime TV show in Japan. full Story...

Absolut. Det tänker jag.

Faktiskt, kära vänner, så är detta ett fall där jag föredrog Live Action-varianten framför serien.

Serietidningen tycker jag är hjärndöd och handlar mest om en enda sak...

Tv-serien framförde dock konceptet på ett vis som jag tyckte funkade bra, och Sara Pezini framstog som en relativt bra och realistisk karaktär.

Jag ser helst att en eventuell film går mer åt det hållet, än att sikta på att fånga "känslan" och "stilen" från dom första gamla serierna.

Minns att Yancy Butler sa i någon intervju i början av TV-serien att hon var glad att de tonat ned nakenheten, så den här bilden kännas då inte konstig för mig...

We were tipped off this morning that the feature film adaptation of the popular '90s comic book Witchblade will be directed by Michael Rymer (Battlestar Gallactica, Queen of the Damned) from a screenplay by Everett De Roche. Coming in 2009 is the live action adaption of the best selling graphic novel franchise, WITCHBLADE, the legend of an ancient and mysterious weapon and the female warrior destined to wield it awesome power. Launched in 1995, WITCHBLADE is a comic book series created by TOP COW Productions. Since its inception, Witchblade has sold over a hundred million units worldwide and been translated into over 25 languages to become the phenomenon with cross-over mainstream success.

The Witchblade is a supernatural artifact, a symbiotic, sentient weapon than can bond only with a woman. Wielded by the right warrior, it becomes a terrifying tool in the eternal battle of Good against Evil. 'Battlestar' director set to helm 'Witchblade'?
Bloody-Disgusting reports that Michael Rymer is set to direct the 'Witchblade' movie from a script by Everett De Roche.

Rymer is best-known for his work on 'Battlestar Galactica' and has also directed the feature film 'Anne Rice's Queen of the Damned'. De Roche has extensive experience writing for Australian TV and film.

The news comes from anonymous sources so consider it a rumor for now, but expect confirmation soon.

Variety has confirmed a story that first appeared on Bloody Disgusting - "Battlestar Galactica" stalwart Michael Rymer will direct and co-produce Witchblade, a feature film adaptation of the Top Cow comic.

The fantasy involves a jewel-encrusted gauntlet that bestows extraordinary powers upon the possessor, one chosen female from each generation.

Rymer, who has directed 20 episodes of the revived series and produced 40, is filming the "Battlestar Galactica" series finale. The Australian filmmaker recently wrapped production on "Revolution," a two-hour series pilot for NBC Universal Media Studios and the SCI FI Channel.

Witchblade is a co-production of Platinum Studios, Top Cow Productions and Arclight Films.

We halfway confirmed some interesting news that landed in our laps at the San Diego Comic Con. We learned that Top Cow and Arclight are already planning a sequel to their adaptation of Witchblade, with the possibilities of the two films being shot back-to-back. The news comes from the same scooper who tipped us off months ago that Michael Rymer would be directing the film that centers on an ornate jewel-encrusted gauntlet that gives extraordinary powers to the wearer, a specially chosen female from each generation. We confirmed sequel plans, but weren't able to get any official comment on the back-to-back shoot. More when it comes in.
