It's been over a year since we spoke to producer Don Carmody (here) and got an update on the period sci-fi creature feature Outlander, starring Jim Caviezel. Not much has changed since then: The film is still unreleased on U.S. soil (The Weinstein Company is to thank for that) and the likelihood of it bowing overseas by the end of the summer is pretty darn good.

There is an encyclopedic website dedicated to all things Outlander, however. That spot keeps tabs on the latest possible distribution news and features a few reports from the Cannes Film Festival where the film played. (The Frightfest gang says, "there's gore aplenty, the thrills are many and the CGI monster is pretty good too.") It also hosts an impressive photo gallery.

In Outlander, two aliens crash land on Earth - one good (Caveziel), one bad (created by Patrick Tatopoulos). Subsequently, their intergalactic battle disrupts the lives of a band of Vikings (played by John Hurt, Ron Perlman and Moonlight's Sophia Myles.

Her blood will spill!” Ahem, sorry, but everytime I think about the new James Caviezel “spaceman in Vikings time battles Beowulf legend” movie “Outlander”, I instantly flash back to that hilarious South Park episode where, a couple of days after the adults are all rounded up and arrested for attempting to molest their kids (or so the kids say), South Park turns into “Children of the Corn” times, like, 200 or something. Wait, where was I? Oh right, the first official trailer for Caviezel’s “Outlander” is out, and I have to admit, not bad. Could have been better, but not bad at all.

Snygg trailer. Iofs ska man inte enbart gå efter en trailer men jag ser gärna filmen själv för att avgöra vad jag tycker om filmen, så pass intressant tycker jag allt att den är.

Outlander is a film about an alien who crash lands on Earth during the time of vikings and is pursued there by a dragon-like enemy. If there is still some reason why you are not rushing to watch the trailer here, then we are afraid we must inform you that you are irredeemably odd. Who cares that it looks a little bit terrible? Did you not see the bit about the alien, the dragon and the vikings? Also, it's produced by someone who produced "Lord of the Ring", which we're assuming must be different from Lord of the Rings.

First "Outlander" Clip at WorstPreviews™
The first clip from the upcoming sci-fi movie "Outlander" has been released, featuring a group of Vikings beating some answers our of James Caviezel, who apparently was busy hunting a dragon before his capture.

Plot: As an age old battle rages amongst the stars, Kainan's (Caviezel) ship burns brightly as it crashes into the Nordic coast. As his space craft comes to rest in the fjords of ancient Norway, it's with dismay that Kainan realizes that he wasn't the only survivor. A second passenger, a Moorwen also emerges from the wreckage. A Fierce and animal-like creature, the Moorwen is intent on causing harm to those it perceives have wronged it. As the Moorwen kills everything in its path, Kainan must work together with the Vikings to destroy the beast before it destroys them all.

"Outlander" is directed by Howard McCain and is produced by Barrie M. Osborne (The Lord of the Rings). At this point, the film does not have a release date.

Dread Central - Outlander DVD Landing in November

Despite an impassioned plea by AICN's Moriarty several weeks back for Harvey Weinstein to give Howard McCain's vikings vs. an alien creature feature Outlander a wide theatrical release it looks likes that plea fell on deaf ears (or should I say deaf eyes?) and the film will be getting dumped onto DVD in November.

Movies Unlimited just made Outlander available for pre-order with a November 18th street date listed for its release.

There's been no official DVD announcement from The Weinstein Company and I've not seen it listed on any other DVD websites, save for Amazon. Movies Unlimited is usually fairly reliable, although several months back they had DVD release listing for All the Boys Love Mandy Lane that didn't pan out.

We'll keep our eyes out for further confirmation as to whether November 18th is going to be the day you can take home the alien-viking-space monster movie starring Jesus, Hellboy, and the first victim of an alien chestburster.

Intressant recension, mycket av det negativa han tog upp tycker jag inte alls låter så tokigt (när jag läser det) och har fortfarande förhoppningar om att detta kan bli en skön popcornrulle att avnjuta framöver.

UPDATE: A reader from http://outlander.solsector.net/ says, “There’s been no confirmation about the DVD date and nearest myself and one of the producers can tell there really isn’t a date set for the DVD much less a theatrical release. Plus, The Weinstein Company is contractually obligated to give outlander at least a limited theatrical release.” We’ll be contacting TWC tomorrow.

Shok Till You Drop - Outlander Touches Down in January

The Weinstein Co. has opted to hand down distribution duties for Outlander to Third Rail Releasing, an appendage of the company known for limited theatrical runs (see: Rogue, Eden Lake).

That being said, Third Rail has locked a release date of January 23rd. Company reps have not informed us how many theaters Howard McCain's long-delayed period creature feature will debut in. A DVD release is likely to follow in the subsequent months through Genius Products.

Jag hade snarare väntat mig en Direkt-till-DVD film eftersom man knappt har hört något om den här i Sverige.
